Mini Meghans and Harrys:Clare Waight Keller dresses the bridesmaids, while the page boys wear miniature frockcoats

The question of what the bridesmaids will wear at a wedding is always a pertinent one. Will thebride, in a bid to not be outshone (lest we forget the stir caused by Pippa Middleton in Alexander McQueen at her sister"s wedding), force her leading ladies into matching taffeta explosions in an unflattering hue?Or will she be a good friend (and, indeed, a savvy bride who considers the photographs) and choose gorgeous dresses in a style that each of them is pleased with?

This was not a conundrum that Meghan Markle faced in the lead up to her and Prince Harry"s hugely anticipated wedding.Markle seemingly bypassed bridesmaidpolitics all together - as well asthe difficult question of who would be her maid of honour - insteadchoosing six bridesmaids and four page boys to accompany her down the aisle, all under the age of seven.Given theenormous amount of pressure on Markle ahead of the big day, can one really blame her for choosing to avoid cherry picking from her nearest and dearest to create a grown-up bridal party?

What"s more, the absence of adult bridesmaidsisn"tunusual for aBritish royal wedding. And it makes for a very sweet spectacle too.

Accompanying Markle down the aisle werePrincess Charlotte, 4-year-old Ivy Mulroney (daughter of Markle"s closefriend, Canadian stylist Jessica Mulroney), Remi and Rylan Litt (daughters of Benita Litt, and Markle"s goddaughters), 2-year-old Zalie Warren (daughter of Mrs. Zoe Warren and Mr. Jake Warren, and goddaughter of Prince Harry) and3-year-oldFlorence Van Cutsem (daughter of Mrs. Alice van Cutsem and Major Nicholas van Cutsem, and another of Prince Harry"s goddaughters).

Making up the page boy party werePrince George, 6-year-oldJasper George Galloway Dyer ( son of Amanda Kline and Captain Mark William Galloway Dyer) and 7-year-old twin sons of Mulroney, Brian and John.

While Princess Charlotte and Prince George, as Prince Harry"s niece and nephew, are natural choices for the roles, the remaining eight children"s involvement is not as self-explanatory, although each has a strong affiliation to the couple in their own way.

Ivy, Brian and John Mulroney, as the children of Markle"s close friendJessica Mulroney, who is married to Benedict Mulroney, the son of former Canadian prime minister Brian Mulroney, feature prominently in Markle"s life - as well as on social media, with the three of them regularly posing for pictures on their mother"s Instagram.

Florencevan Cutsem"s involvement in the ceremony, on the other hand, is a result of her parents" proximity to Prince Harry. Both are longstanding friends of the royal family.Florence is in fact the cousin ofGrace Van Cutsem, best remembered for being the bridesmaid with her hands over her ears at the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge"s wedding.

The Litt sisters, whose mother Benita is a handbag designer and another close friend of the bride, have also made an appearance on social media, via Markle"s account, when she referred to the girls as her ""fairy goddaughters.""

The sixth and final bridesmaid, Zalie Warren,is connected to the couple via the groom. Her father, Jake Warren, is the son of the Queen"sbloodstock and racing adviser John Warrenand his wife Zoe, as well as being an old school friend of Prince Harry"s from Eton.

JasperDyer also featured in the wedding due to his connection to the groom. He is both one the Prince"s godchildren, and the son of Harry"s trusted mentor Mark Dyer, who is known to have provided supportfor Harry while he was coming to terms with the death of his mother, the Princess of Wales.

But if Markle"schoice to only have young bridesmaids and page boys wasn"t an unorthodox one, then the suggestion that they might be wearing modern dress, rather than the traditional ruffles and bloomers we are used to seeing at a royal wedding, was slightly more unusual.

""I think the outfits will be a classic style with traditional British design detailing, perhaps with Peter Pan collars or trimmed with lace,"" predicted Pepa Gonzalez, founder ofPepa & Co, who was commissioned to create the quaint bridesmaids and page boy outfits for Pippa Middleton"s wedding last year.""They may opt for ivory dresses with hints of blue for the sashes, page boy shorts or accessories, a colour that is well suited to a royal wedding.""

While there weren"t any blue outfit accents, as suggested by Gonzales, she did accurately predict ivory as the colour of choice. As it transpired, it was Clare Waight Keller, the designerwho took the helm of French label Givenchy last year as creative directorand was formerly atChlo??, who was responsible for creating the outfits for the bridesmaids. It was intended that the the designer, who wasalso responsible for designing Markle"s perfectly understatedwedding gown, would create simple ivory dresses for the little girls that ""had the same timeless purity"" as the wedding dress. And that is exactly what Waight Keller, whobecame known for her feminine, ethereal designs atChlo??, did.

The bridesmaids" dresses weresculpted in silk, featuring high-waists, short puffed sleeves and softly pleated skirts, finished withsilk ribbons tied at the back insweet bows. And the shoes were mini Aquazurra creations, each pair monogrammed with the girls" initials and the wedding date -thoughtful and poignant keepsakefrom Markle, particularly consideringthat she herself has become known for her penchant for Aquazzura heels.

The finishing touches on each outfit were the flower crowns, designed byflorist Philippa Craddock, who was also responsible for creating Markle"s bouquet.

The page boys, meanwhile, were outfitted in miniature versions ofthe Blues and Royals frockcoat, the uniform that draws its insignia from the old regiment of the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry, both of whom were also wearing thefrockcoats.

Made from the same blue doeskin by tailors Dege & Skinner in Savile Row, and featuring the same single-breasted detail with a stand-up collar, the page boys appeared in downsized versions of the groom"s ensemble, with initials on each shoulder strap, in the same way that the bridesmaids mirrored Markle.
